Venizelos, Davutoglu Talk TAP In Turkey

venizelos-davutogluNew Greek Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos met in Ankara with his counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu on July 19, where they talked about an “energy bridge” between the countries via the planned TransAdriatic Pipeline (TAP) that will bring gas from Azerbaijan through Greece to Europe.
Venizelos, the PASOK Socialist chief was appointed to the critical post as well as being named Deputy Prime Minister by Prime Minister and New Democracy Conservative party leader Antonis Samaras in return for dropping opposition to firing public workers.
The two ministers had a private discussion, followed by a meeting of the delegations of the two ministries and then the ministers gave a press conference where Venizelos said that TAP was an “energy bridge” that “changes the geographic data. He said it meant also a “new bridge not only of economic, but also of geopolitical importance”.
The Turkish minister, who said he would come to Athens at the end of the year, talked about the positive developments in their bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, of tourism, of energy and of culture and especially highlighed the agreement for the TAP. They also spoke about the energy zone EEZ in the Aegean Sea, an area of dispute,  the Cyprus issue and about the importance of Venizelos’ visit.
