Samos, the Island of Hera and Pythagoras

Samos
The beautiful Greek island of Samos lies in the heart of the Central Aegean, 1,200 meters from the shore of Asia Minor. With its diversity, green, rocky mountains and fertile plains, Samos is ready to offer some pretty unforgettable summer vacation experience.
This large Aegean island is a gorgeous, verdant place, which at one point is no more than two kilometers from the coast of Asia Minor. It is covered with pure white sand beaches, picturesque villages, fishing harbors and is largely known for the production and the quality of its wine. The Samian wines, particularly the sweet Muscats, are widely exported today.

The breathtaking natural beauty, the historical sites spread all over the island along with the charming mountainous landscape of Samos, create a unique atmosphere that enchants the visitors and takes them to an era of myths, heroes and philosophers.
The island has seen days of inexpressible grandeur, as it was once an important cultural center of the Mediterranean world. The beauteous temples of the island were highly appreciated among others, by kings, priests and men of letters.

Close to the airport lies the Heraion, the classical Greek temple dedicated to the Greek goddess Hera, once linked to the town by the Iera Odos  (the Holy Way) by a six-kilometer road dating back to the 7th century BC, and lined with 2,000 statues and with graves and funeral monuments.
Pythagorion, named after the great Greek philosopher Pythagoras, is a traditional authentic Greek village as well as a great tourist and cosmopolitan center.
Today, Samos is considered one of the most beautiful Greek islands. An island close to its traditions, as its people seem to follow the steps of their great ancestors. So, if you’re still searching for the ideal place for you summer break, I’m pretty sure I’ve provided you with some good food for thought!
