Musical concerts at Filopappou Hill and at Elefsina, a tribute to Lorca in the Cyclades and many other events, which will be announced in time, are scheduled for the August full moon on Wednesday, August 21.
At least 71 sites of archaeological interest- sites, museums, monuments- will welcome, as it usually happens every year, the most famous full moon of the year. The number of sites is continuously increasing, as it was mentioned in the recent meeting of the Central Archaeological Council, the members of which, had no objection regarding the operation of the archaeological sites and museums across the country on the full moon night.
“Despite the very difficult times we are going through, we want to offer an evening of joy near the monuments. We believe that the full moon events should be realized again this year in order to have this contact with the antiquities under the August moon,” stated the Director of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, Maria Andreadaki-Vlazaki, to the Central Archaeological Council.
Musical concerts, theatrical performances, guided tours, video screenings and star observations are among the events which will be siding the successful institution of the Ministry of Culture. From Thrace to Crete and from the Ionian Islands to the Dodecanese islands, tens of museums and archaeological sites will remain open, with some of them being accompanied by events.
A concert by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens will be held at Filipappou Hill and the archaeological site of Elefsina will also be flourished with music. The archaeological sites of the Cyclades, which will participate in the celebration, will be “coordinated” to the poetry of Federico Garcia Lorca, as between 10 and 11 o’clock at night, the Lament for Ignacio Sanchez Mejias will be recited by Manos Katrakis.
