Suspect in Boys' Drownings Changes Tale

ilia_paidia_pnigmos_593_355The 13-year-old brother of the two children’s mother (the 4-year-old Dinko and 7-year-old Ivan, who were missing since July 31 and were found dead in an irrigation canal in the region of Strefi in Ilia, Greece, on August 1) had initially confessed that he pushed them into the canal because he was jealous of them.
However, the 13-year-old changed his confession in front of the investigating judge to whom he was led on August 5.
The children’s father from the very beginning had accused his step-mother (the grandfather’s wife) for the death of the children. During questioning by the police, he changed his initial confession and claimed that he was not at the murder scene.
Local media mention that the 13-year-old brought back the initial scenario, which was from the first moment supported by both the children’s parents, that the two underage children were thrown into the water by their grandmother, their father’s step-mother.
When he was asked why he confessed initially, he said that he did it under pressure, but also because he was scared of the policemen.
The deposition of the 13-year-old to the investigating judge, in presence of the psychologist that has been seeing him since the day of his arrest, lasted three hours. According to patrisnews.com, the child this time claimed that the day the two brothers disappeared, he was not in the region, but had gone swimming. The 13-year-old will stay at the Educational Institution for Underage Males of Volos until the case is clarified. He said that he left the shirt of one of the brothers in the house.
