2013 Record-Year for Tourism in Greece

olga kefalogianni Greek Minister for Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni, talking to the Greek channel SKAI, expressed the belief that this year will be a record- year for tourism. She added that the government will emphasize further the attraction of investments in quality tourism, as well as in alternative forms of tourism.
In this framework, the minister reported that the signing of a Joint Ministerial Decision (JMD) with the Greek Ministry for Health is in the final straight for medical tourism development.
Kefalogianni, referring to this year’s touristic movement, pointed out, “I think that we will have a record-year, as far as both arrivals and revenues are concerned. This is warm money for the state that we need more than ever.”
The Tourism Minister reported that Greek tourism is very attractive for investments and that great effort has been made in order to simplify the procedures for investments of other type, by attracting quality tourism and special forms of tourism, such as wine tourism, religious, cultural or gastronomic tourism.
She stressed that the ministry’s aim is for tourists to return to Greece without thinking of  problems in competitor countries, such as Egypt.
“We should not wait for external incidents in order to improve tourism. There are feelings of destabilization with all that is happening in Egypt, while Greece has interest in maintaining peace in its wider area,” Kefalogianni reported.
