Greeks Use Net For Travel Tix

assets_LARGE_t_420_54240104_type12128Greeks are increasingly turning toward using the Internet to buy travel tickets instead of going to agencies, according to the international online travel agency travelplanet24.
Some 57 percent of the people who participated in the survey stated that they make their reservations of air tickets via the Internet. From the travelers who make their reservations on line, 31 percent chooses to make them via an online travel agency, while the rest 26 percent chooses the official sites of the airline companies.
The survey which was carried out on a sample of 1,005 people in the three biggest cities of the country that have an airport, Athens, Thessaloniki, and Heraklion, also showed that the majority  of the users (86 percent) searches and compares prices to more than two pages before they book the tickets.
Price comparisons are made in the sites of online travel agencies and air companies on the basis of three basic criteria:

  • Cheapest prices
  • Ease of using the site
  • Reliability that each site inspires

Those who trust more the Internet for the organization of their voyages are mainly those who have a daily contact with the net as only 10 percent of the people who choose the online bookings surf the net at least one or two times per week or even less.
The number of trips that Greeks now make has dropped dramatically. So, while in 2009, the average number of trips that they used to make reached 4.3 per year, in 2012 the average of the trips indicator fell to only two.
At the same time many were those who revealed that they travel once a year. From those the vast majority (94 percent) travel for personal reasons, while six percent do for professional reasons.
