New College Students See Future Abroad

protoi panelliniesWith the results of the Pan-Hellenic Exams just announced, a new class of Greek college students is set to begin their education, but many said they see their lives elsewhere now, with the country’s crushing economic crisis and 65 percent unemployment among youth dashing their dreams of staying.
Ilias Zervas, from the First Lyceum of Glyfada, collected 19235 points in Pan-Hellenic Exams. He is among the first to enter the Technical University in the Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering.
“I sacrificed my leisure time and my family supported me so that I would achieve my goal,” the 18-year-old said, talking to protothema.gr. The next dream he wants to follow is to realize postgraduate studies in the USA, as Ilias pointed out.
Fotis Sioutaris entered the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering second in row, having collected 19642 points in the exams. “I was deprived of strolls and chiefly of my hobby, which is martial arts, but I think I did it,” Fotis said, obviously pleased by his results. The first-rate student, after first getting his degree, plans to leave Greece and go abroad for postgraduate studies.
Mary Geropeppa, managed to enter the University of Athens Medical School. She stated that she is determined to become a surgeon. Postgraduate studies abroad are among Mary’s plans, as she will examine all possibilities after her studies in Greece.
