Syria Tensions Rise in the Mediterranean

1378203778000-AP-France-SyriaOn September 2, Israel and the U.S.  carried out a joint missile test in the Mediterranean, firing two rockets which later fell into the sea.
News of the secret test came this morning when the Russian defense ministry stated that a radar system had detected the launching of two ‘ballistic objects from an area in the central Mediterranean while moving in an easterly direction, according to media reports.
Later on in the day, the Israeli military revealed that it had conducted a joint missile test with the United States.
It was not immediately clear to what extent the U.S. was involved in the missile test. On his side, the Pentagon spokesman Navy Commander William Speaks told Associated Press: “I have nothing to confirm those reports whatsoever.”
However, the final decision is yet to be taken given that Congress is preparing to hold a vote on whether the U.S. should take military action against Syria over the alleged use of chemical weapons by the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
