3B17C078D5566EB7837664A8FA186637Employees of the mining and metallurgical company LARKO and the administrative staff of the Universities held simultaneous rallies and protests against the government plans concerning the closure of Greeceā€™s defense industries LARKO, EAS and ELVO and against the plans of dismissals and suspensions.
About 600 LARKO employees marched through Athens earlier and protested outside the State Treasury on Panepistimiou Street.
Nearby, at the Propylaea of the University of Athens, about 600 administrative staff employees from various educational institutions held their own rally against the government plans.
This is the first of a series of 48-hour strikes that have been already announced in response to the governmentā€™s decision to suspend 1,600 university employees from all over the country.
