Final Curtain for Athenian Theaters

THEATRO_535_355Athens Mayor Georgios Kaminis sent notices for imminent closure to 34 theaters in Athens that do not have an operating license, as it was found out last spring.
A joint meeting that started early at noon on September 16 at the Acropolis Museum among the Minister of Culture, Panos Panayiotopoulos, Interior Minister, Yiannis Michelakis, Alternate Minister of Environment, Stavros Kalafatis, the Fire Brigade Chief, theater representatives and Kaminis, is seeking a solution.
Public inspectors found out that there were problems in several theaters and launched the prescribed procedure.
The theatrical businessmen on their side claimed that the operation regime of the theaters was based on an anachronistic law of  the 1930’s, which cannot be adjusted to present data. Some said that they are oriented to closing down their halls themselves in order to avoid the state’s intervention.
