Kazantzakis Award Winners Named

kazantzakisThe International Award named after the acclaimed late Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis will be awarded to Maria Hadjiapostolou, theologist, and Marta Silvia Dios Sanz of Argentina, a doctoral candidate at the University of Peloponnese in Athens, Greece.
The International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis (ISFNK) announced the competition in question for the first time, which was related to an original written work (doctoral thesis, study, research, literary text) or an original art creation, inspired by the work and life of Kazantzakis.
Hadjiapostolou’s research, entitled The face of Christ in Kazantzakis, that won the award of scientific paper, refers to the author’s relation with God and especially with the face of Christ, as well as to the eternal search of his rebellious soul.
Dios Sanz won the award of literary text for her work The Oblique Look (La Mirada Oblicua), inspired by Kazantzakis’ way of thinking, that describes the gradual awakening of four young Greeks seeking a creative way of life, living experiences from his work.
A number of 42 candidates participated in the competition and sent their works in English, French, Greek and Spanish. The evaluation of the participants in the competition was made from every judge individually, according to criteria as the work’s originality, the creator’s imagination, the language expression, the message’s clarity, the relevance of the text with Kazantzakis.
