The leader of SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras had a long conversation on theĀ bilateral and regional topics with the chairwoman of the Federal Council of the Russian Federation,Valentina Matviyenko, who visited Greece.
Tsipras expressed the political will for the development of the bilateral Greek-Russian relations on all levels, a position also supported by Matviyenko, the highest-ranking female politician in Russia. According to information, she stressed that Moscow wishes to develop the relations between the two sovereign states based on mutual respect.
Tsipras noted that SYRIZA has a different approach from the government on privatizations, adding, that he is positive regarding international collaboration which can contribute to the financial and bilateral cooperation.
In this framework, the president of SYRIZA stated that his political party does not seek and will not subject the development of the relations with Russia to the positions expressed by third parties, such as the EU.
Greece is an EU member and will remain so, but this does not mean that the country will negotiate with its partners and will ask their permission in order to cooperate with other countries, he explained.
According to ANAmpa sources, Tsipras is going to pay an official visit to Moscow in October.
