Troika’s Not Leaving Athens Yet

Troika_StournarasEnvoys from Greece’s international lenders, the Troika of the European Union-International Monetary Fund-European Central Bank (EU-IMF-ECB) will stay in Athens until the end of September to take more time in a review of the books and to determine if the government is making enough progress before releasing more monies.

Greek Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras said he will be continuing talks on the implementation of the adjustment program. Always the optimist, he said as he left his office that, “negotiations are going well, there is significant progress on all issues and we will continue until the end of the month,” even though talks keep breaking down over worries that the administration keeps missing fiscal targets.

Negotiations were originally set to wrap up on Sept. 28, but unresolved issues, including the deficit of social security funds for 2014 and the failure to collect taxes and tax evasion are keeping the envoys around longer.

  2. Just face it..
Greece will not and will never reform or change anything..It will be business as usual…uNFORTUNATELY..
The sioner these realise this the sooner they will realise that Greeks cannot reform..and will not reform and will continue to rort any system that is put in place..

The minute Greece got a primary surplus, Troika’s influence went to zero.

That’s why they keep revising things down. To have reason to stick around. By December we will know for sure that Troika is superfluous.

Can you tell me a single thing they accomplished at this last visit? Something that is good for Greece?

That’s why it’s stupid to deny a “success story”. If you deny it then you get Troika rammed down your throat.
