Greek Prime Minister Heading Today to Israel

samarasbrusselsGreek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, who returned from a six-day official visit to the US on Friday, will travel today to Jerusalem to take part in a high-level Greek-Israeli ministerial council.
On Saturday Samaras met with key ministers at the Maximos Mansion in Athens and received a full briefing on developments regarding an ongoing crackdown on the ultra-right Golden Dawn as well as progress in efforts to meet so-called “prior actions” demanded by the troika in exchange for further rescue funding before he sets off for Israel on Monday.
Rounding off his visit to the US on Friday with a speech at the Hellenic Initiative in New York City, Samaras said he planned to discuss efforts by Greece, Israel and Cyprus to exploit energy resources in their region during his mission to Israel. During his visit, Samaras will also hold talks with Israeli President Shimon Peres.
A meeting with Jerusalem Patriarch Theophilos is also on the agenda. The Greek premier will round off his visit in Tel Aviv, where he will speak at a Greek-Israeli business conference. It was announced on Friday that the Greek and Israeli air forces and navies will take part in a joint military exercise on Tuesday and Wednesday.
