Former Greek defense minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos, who was found guilty on Oct. 7 of money laundering and corruption charges, was sentenced to 20 years in jail.
Tsochatzopoulos claims that the court verdict was affected by secret interventions made by powerful figures. He said he does not recognize the decision and he is going to appeal his 20-year sentence.
“Today the judicial officers have committed crimes against the law and the justice system itself. This court was proved inadequate and weak to resist the powerful interventions of my sentencing and imprisonment against me. Today the Court was“derailed” by the law.
The court flouted both its obligation of an in-depth investigation of the truth, but also proceeded in a crushing conviction against me and my family.
I do not recognize this decision and I am going to appeal soon. I will keep struggling to prove the truth and my innocence.”
