The Troika of Greece’s international lenders, the European Union-International Monetary Fund-European Central Bank have decided to give the right to EOPYY patients of freely visiting specializing doctors with EOPPY coverage. The EOPPY doctors opposed the decision and said it was “inconceivable” and was designed as a way to exclude specialist doctors from primary health.
“This will lead to the tragic deterioration of the quality of healthcare services, the cost increase of healthcare services since every citizen will be forced to pay to see a specialist doctor, the creation of conditions for corruption and the closure of thousands of clinics and labs, resulting in an explosion of unemployment in the health services sector,” the union said in a statement.
The doctors of EOPYY, the state health care system, said it’s up to patients to choose who they want to see and the doctor’s right to participate in EOPYY. They said if the measure is adopted it will undermine the primary health care system in the country.
