Olga KefalogianniA common declaration of tourism cooperation between Greece and Israel was signed on Oct 8, right after the meeting of the Greek minister of Tourism Olga Kegalogianni with her Israeli counterpart Uzi Landau in the framework of the Interministerial Cooperation Council of the two countries that took place in Jerusalem. The joint meeting took place on the occasion of the official visit that the Prime Minister of Greece Antonis Samaras paid in Israel.
During the meeting the level of cooperation between the two countries in the tourism sector was confirmed and much emphasis was given to the promotion of joint travel packages towards Greece and Israel from distant locations, such as the USA, Canada and China. It was agreed the close cooperation between the Tourism Offices that the two countries hold in the other countries.
It was also highlighted the important role that the Jewish and Greek Diaspora can play in enhancing this policy, while it was decided the further boost of the bilateral cooperation for the promotion of special types of tourism, such as the religious tourism and city breaks (a short holiday spent in a city, often involving visits to museums, galleries, and restaurants).
Kefalogianni invited her Israeli counterpart to visit Athens, suggesting the organization of a concurrent meeting of tourism industry professionals from both countries.
