Budget Cuts for Greece's Tourism Promotion

Kefalogianni-kampania-2013-2In a press conference that the GreekĀ  Tourism Development Minister, Olga Kefalogianni gave yesterday, while accompanied by the general secretary of Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) Panos Leivadas, it was made clear that the tourism promotion budget will be reduced from 10 million euro in 2013 to 7.5 million euro in 2014. This, as Panos Leivadas admitted, will lead to less Greek participation in international tourism fairs and less promotional activities. This absence of representations in international tourism fairs, will affect many Greek islands – like the Ionian islands, as well as other destinations negatively. They participate via GNTO in these fairs and activities in order to attract tourists and boost their local economy, as tourism is the main source of income.
