Government’s Decisions for Lay Offs in the Public Sector

maximos mansionOn Friday the 18th of October, after the meeting of the State Council for the administrative reform, the Finance Minister Giannis Stournaras sent a message to troika:
“The negotiations are hard, but go on as usual. Our work too, continues as normal,” Stournaras stated.
He underlined that “the government cannot accept views that seem to underestimate the efforts of the Greek people and the improvements of our economy’s indicators, such as investments, foreign interest, spreads etc”.
In the case that troika rejects the request of the minister of Administrative Reform, Kiriakos Mitsotakis, for a three-month extension, then at Maximos Mansion they examined the panning of a second wave of mobility for more 12,000 public sector employees that has to be completed by the end of December.
According to sources, the biggest part of the employees that will have to face availability, will come from reform actions of the Ministries of Health and Interior, and more precisely from OTA “local administration organizations.”
Sources say, it was agreed, in case lay-offs occur in the Hellenic Defense Systems, (EAS) and the Hellenic Arms Industry SA (EBO), those will be counted in the total amounts of lay-offs. In addition, if the Ministry of Justice decides the dismissal of contract staff remaining in the public sector, who work with temporary orders and injunctions, will also be included in the lay-offs.
“These matters were posed to troika and a big political battle will be given at all levels,” stated sources of the Ministry of Administrative Reform and e-Governance.
