Rhodes: Fathers Situation Touches Bank Employees

bank-RhodesEveryday in Greece, more and more people reach poverty and despair. Such stories are recorded on a daily basis and are countless.
The local newspaper of Rhodes, “Rhodiaki” reveals a very moving story of a desperate young father who touched bank employees with his situation.
He went into a bank branch in Rhodes holding three passbooks. After waiting for at least two hours for every client to leave, he went to the cashier of the bank and withdrew all amounts that were in his bank account.
The cashier proceeded to complete the process, when to his surprise he realized  that the total amount in the three passbooks was only 2 euros and 80 cents. “Your passbooks are empty” said the cashier, who apparently thought that this was too small an amount to withdraw.
The young father approached the counter and said with a low voice: ” I’m waiting here today for this amount. With that money, 2.80 euros, I will buy milk for my child.”
This case made the personnel of the bank freeze, as he was shocked to see the father in complete despair. The employees of the bank reported to “Rhodiaki” that they deal with such cases very often. Unfortunately, the recession and economical deprivation lead Greek citizens to hopelessness.
