The Greek leading film distributor and producer, Odeon S.A., and Greek Reporter have teamed up to promote Greek cinema to a new worldwide audience, through PameOdeon.gr, the new video on demand platform.
This political drama takes us back in time, to a different political period in a small mountainous Greek village of 1945. Shortly after Varkiza’s Agreement, armed parastatals led by Micha cause terror, murders and other horrible acts against the leftists who have not declared obedience and allegiance.
The movie’s scenes and the whole story is cruel yet realistic. The armed parastatals invade homes- raping, beating and threatening even the children. They demand money in order not to escalate the violence, forcing people to sell their small fortunes, their animals and their homes. Their action supports the Gendarmerie station, which entrusts them with crimes that others are usually not willing to commit.
Terrorism in the village is now a fact of life. It becomes clear that no leftist can stay there. One of the villagers, young man Lambros, decides to go to the mountain and become a rebel in order to protect his family, while his wife and child stay back in the village. At this point a new cycle of bloodshed begins…
Fascists retaliate by doing terrible things to his wife and son. Soon, Lambros returns to the village determined to regain his dignity through violence and ruthless actions, knowing that this is not the solution.
This story depicts the differences between extreme leftists and right- wing fascism that too often results in violence. It is a close look into the civil war, focused primarily on the actions of the fascists. It is a story that will make us wonder about the forms and effects of the unfortunate rise of fascism.
