Thomsen and Morse Greeted with Chaos in Athens

troika-attacked-with-coinsToday, Poul Thomsen and Matthias Morse had to secretly leave from a side door of the Ministry of Finance, because of the violent reaction of the Ministry’s cleaning staff. Dozens of cleaning people who are now suspended, waited for the Troika members at the Ministry’s entrance.
The main entrance was blocked by the protesters, forcing Mr. Thomsen and Mr. Morse to sneak out through the basement, and come out at the archway leading to the post office near Syntagma Square.
The cleaners were blocked by strong police forces and were unable to reach the members of the Troika. However, they condemned Mr. Thomsen and Mr. Morse even behind the closed shutters.
Their arrival at the Ministry of Finance, this morning, wasn’t less eventful. A handful of coins were thrown at Poul Thomsen’s car by an unknown citizen around noon, when the IMF representative arrived outside the building.
The coins did not hit Mr. Thomsen, only his car. The citizen who made this activist move was apprehended by the police. It is not known if he was arrested.
Mr. Thomsen and Mr. Mathias Morse (Mr. Klaus Masuch did not participate in the inaugural meeting with the heads of the Ministry of Finance) also received a less than stellar greeting by Eleni Louka who shouted slogans against members of Troika.
Furthermore, civil servants that are now suspended, were gathered outside Yannis Stournaras’ office–only a few meters away from where the meeting was being held–shouting slogans through a megaphone. This protest only lasted a few minutes.
