Tax Office Thoroughly Examines 1,600 Wealthy People

reichenbach_Financial and Economic Crime Unit (SDOE) received a list from Commissioner Horst Reichenbach, including well-known business executives and government organizations which will be examined thoroughly.
A special decentralized tax audit service (KEFOMEP) intends to impose massive fines on wealthy taxpayers which can reach up to ten million euros.
According to the guidelines of Reichenbach, 1,600 rich taxpayers will be controlled by KEFOMEP and will be doing a thorough check on expensive properties and the taxation of the last years.
The list becomes bigger constantly and in the upcoming months will be rechecked by KEFOMEP in aim to examine the properties of 2,000 self-employed lawyers, developers, manufacturers, entrepreneurs, hoteliers, ship-owners, shipbuilders as well as many important executives of public and private companies, institutions and organizations.
Stakeholders of the Finance Ministry say that the checks are still at the initial level. They are aiming to target big real estate, and millions of property sales in the past 15 years of those who paid the lowest amounts to the revenue office.
After the summer, KEFOMEP has taken action and in September selected 219 taxpayers. This tax service overpassed the initial problems and delays related to the check procedure. Checks will be reaching up to 30-40 per month.
The Ministry of Finance stated that rich people are not necessarily controlled and offenders accountable, as many of the taxpayers give a convincing explanation and are therefore unaffected by fines.
