Fake Weddings for Hellenization of Foreigners

police-fake-weddingsAfter the accusation from the Ministry of Interior, the prosecutor in the municipality of Achaia is investigating the illegal Hellenization process through fake marriages between Greeks and foreigners. The mayor and some town councilors in the municipality of Achaia were involved in the case that is now being investigated by the Internal Affairs Service of the Greek Police.
According to an announcement by the Ministry of Interior, research showed that in the summer of 2013, 26 marriages took place between Greeks and foreigners, and according to the database of the National Register, cases of bigamy were detected.
In one case in particular, a minor was married to a foreigner without the permission required by the court. Meanwhile, in the last 2 weeks, 67 applications for residence permits were submitted by the same lawyer, because of marriage to a Greek citizen.
Today, the Internal Affairs Service of the Greek Police went to the municipality and in collaboration with the Head of Misdemeanors Prosecutor in Patras, they will investigate the possibility of committing criminal offenses by civil servants of the municipality. Furthermore, the Minister of Interior Manolis Angelaka– in his letter to the Secretary of the Decentralized Administration of Peloponnese, Western Greece, and the Ionian Islands–calls for investigation of any disciplinary responsibilities.
