tax-evaders-The new bill of the Finance Ministry predicts imprisonment of tax evaders in the combat against tax evasion and will be submitted to the Greek Parliament in a few days.
Concerning the big cases of tax evasion and inflow of black money from underground economic activity, the prosecutions would not have any suspensive character, even in cases where the arrested offenders would pay the entire amount of the additional and applicable tax.
Meanwhile, the punishment will not be waived, even when the offenders resort to the court. The amount of tax evasion will be set in a few days. Also, the movable and immovable property of those arrested for major tax evasion cases, laundering black money and misrepresenting their declarations to the tax office, will be confiscated within 24 hours.
According to newspaper Naftemporiki, regarding the lighter infringements, the movable and immovable assets of people arrested for tax evasion will be pledged, whereas in case of vindication by the courts, the amounts will be returned with interest.
When the law will be applied, payment installments, reduce fines and penalties will stop for those who have not submitted tax returns or those who are withholding taxes and duties. In addition, this bill predicts financial relief for those who are unable to pay their debts.
