Qatar Withdraws from Ellinikon Project

ellinikoQatar is once again out of the competition for the exploitation project of the former Greek airport (Ellinikon International Airport) space, just before the end of the binding offer submission period.
According to sources, the company Qatari Diar, a subsidiary of Qatar Authority Investment, informed the administration of the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (TAIPED), that they will not participate in the next phase of the process, the deadline for which officially ends on the 29th of November — informally, it has already received another extension given the size and complexity of the project.
This new development confirms those who predicted from the start, that Qatar would not submit a binding offer when the time came. It is particularly apparent, given that from 2010, they seemed undecided for their participation in the competition. It should be noted that even though Qatari Diar had expressed interest in the TAIPED contest in April 2012, a few months later in January 2013, they withdrew their interest and refused to sign the confidentiality agreement with the other three contenders.
The remaining competitors are three investors: the Israeli company Elbit, Lamda Development and the British company London & Regional Properties.
