Adonis Georgiadis Demands End of Strike

adonisIn an interview early this morning, the Greek Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis warned EOPYY doctors to end their strike or risk facing severe measures later in the week. He said that he is ready to discuss doctor’s objections, but he has to take measures so that patients can continue to receive treatment.
One of the measures is for EOPYY policyholders to be able to attend an external hospital clinic, where they will also be able to receive prescriptions for medication. He also stated that in order to cover needs, other doctors would sign up with EOPYY. So far, almost 700 contracts with doctors have been cancelled, because they received patients in their private clinics, despite the fact that they were on strike.
During his interview, he denied rumors that the Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras asked him to calm his tone down with the doctors in order to find a solution as soon as possible. He also said that the government, as well as the Government Vice President Evangelos Venizelos support the planned healthcare reforms. He gave a one-month deadline to doctors in order to end the strike.
