Greece Widens the Gap From Switzerland in UEFA's Country Coefficient Rankings

 uefalogo

Greece “climbed” in UEFA’s Country Coefficient Ranking after Olympiacos won and progressed to the knock-out phase of Champions League. Olympiacos Piraeus F.C’s win over Anderlecht combined with the qualification of the Greek team in top 16 of the Champions League, brought to Greece 1,400 points and helped the country improve its position in UEFA’s Country Coefficient Ranking. Greece with this point gathering widened the gap from Switzerland and for almost 24 hours was above Turkey, in 11th position.
Turkey was able to reclaim its position from Greece earlier today, when Galatasaray outclassed the very strong side of Juventus by achieving a 1-0 win.
However, the important thing is that Greece now finds itself in 12th position, but with a safe point difference from Switzerland that follows. The gap between the two countries would be difficult to narrow, unless Basel qualifies for the next phase of Champions League. This is Switzerland’s only hope to chase Greece, as the other two country’s representatives Thun and St. Gallen have no chance of progressing in Europa League’s next round. If Greece manages to retain its spot or to surpass Turkey, two Greek teams would have the right of participating in the Champions League; the one team directly and the other one by playing its chances in the qualifying round.
