Angel Gurria: Greece First in the World for Structural Reforms

samaras-gurriaGreek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras had an excellent meeting with Angel Gurria, the Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Gurria gave Samaras a recent report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, an overview for Greece, and praised the country’s efforts, crediting the Prime Minister as he declared that Greece is the world leader of structural reforms.
Gurria pointed out that Greek government has “made an excellent effort,” adding, “There is life after debt.” Earlier in the morning, he had a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos.
The OECD secretary noted that there will always be public policies and a convergence program and underlined the need for cooperation with the Greek government on a medium to long term framework to ensure the welfare of Greek people.
Gurria mentioned that, studying the case of Greece, he wanted to assure the government that OECD recognizes the country is working on “the most impressive adjustment program ever undertaken,” noting a “spectacular reversal in the balance of payments and fiscal, achieving a primary surplus and regaining competitiveness that was lost due to the imbalance in the relationship wage/productivity.”
Later, The Secretary General of the OECD will also meet with Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras and Development Minister Kostis Hadjidakis.
Gurria will be the main speaker at an event at Konstantinos Karamanlis Institute for Democracy on “Reforms for the Future: Building a Stronger and More Equitable Greek Economy.”
