Greek "Golden Black" Producer Gets Great Taste Award

golden blackGiorgos Mazos is a 25-year-old who holds the secret to Golden Black, a sort of superfood that has been globally recognized.
Golden Black refers to the organic Corinthian raisins that have been dried in shade instead of under the sun, according to the recipe from Mazos’ grandfather. Scientists estimate that the shade raisins contain a double dosage of antioxidants, compared to the ones dried in the sun. The organic Golden Black Corinthian raisins were awarded this year with a Golden Star at the Great Taste Awards of 2013.
According to Greek news, Mazos is the grandson of Thanasis Papaioanou, who was the owner of one of the first Greek vineyards that bottled their own wine. The Papaioannou family has been involved in viticulture in Greece since 1876. When Mazos finished his studies, and after having many discussions with his grandfather, he tried experimenting with drying raisins in a small area of organic Corinthian raisins owned by his uncle.
The Golden Black raisins are currently available in 30 different stores in Greece and Mazos has already started exporting them in smaller scale in England. Scandinavia, Scotland, Germany, France, USA, Canada and Switzerland have also shown interest in importing this special kind of superfood.
