Christmas Bonus for Greek Parties

parliament_480_0807The Greek parties received the third installment of the government grant for 2013, which amounts to 7 million euros.
This “bonus” was given to all Greek parties except Golden Dawn according to a previous decision of the Parliament prohibiting the state funding of the neo-nazi party.
Apart from Nea Dimokratia, SYRIZA, PASOK, ANEL (Independent Greeks), DIMAR (Democratic Left) and the Communist party (KKE), beneficiaries are also the non-parliamentary parties LAOS, Ecologist Greens, and Recreate Greece (Dimiourgia Xana).
As published in the Government Gazette the total amount is at 6,913,500 euros and it was approved by the Deputy Finance Minister Christos Staikouras and the Interior Minister Yiannis Michelakis.
The 6,913,500 million euros will be allocated as follows:

  • ND: 1,890,579 euros
  • SYRIZA: 1,727,661 euros
  • PASOK: 868,497 euros
  • ANEL: 587,872 euros
  • DIMAR: 513,865 euros
  • KKE: 410,882 euros
  • LAOS: 145,951 euros (Due to participation in the European Parliament and a percentage of over 1.5% in national elections)
  • Ecologists-Greens: 145,951 euros (Due to participation in the European Parliament and a percentage of over 1.5% in national elections)
  •  Recreate Greece: 69,135 EUR (percentage of over 1.5% in national elections)

On December 19, the Greek parliament by a 241-26 vote approved the cutting off of state funding for the neo-nazi party Golden Dawn. In October Greek MPs voted to prohibit state funding to political parties if their leaders or members are charged with involvement in criminal organization or criminal activities.
