One of Two Greeks Wants to Emigrate

According to an opinion poll that was conducted by Kapa Research on behalf of the newspaper “TO VIMA,” one out of two Greeks would seek better luck abroad if the right opportunity arises.  It’s no secret that Greeks — especially the younger ones — are really worried about their future.

Poll results showed that Greeks anticipate the new year with far greater anxiety and fear as they believe the worst is yet to come.

Some 55.6 percent of the polled, stated they would leave Greece if the right opportunity arises. Another interesting aspect of the poll is that 45.9 percent stated they would consider leaving the large cities and starting a new life in the countryside.

The feeling of despair is obvious in Greek society as seven out of ten Greeks believe that the worse is yet to come (68.6 percent) while only one out of four (25.1 percent) believes that the situation will improve in the future.

The respondents of the poll were also asked to describe the future of Greece with one word and the answers were indicative of their pessimism; seven out of ten believe that the words “devastation” (27.3 percent), “static”(25.1 percent) and “crisis”(18.3 percent) are the right words to use when it comes to the country’s future.

  1. …”one out of two Greeks would seek better luck abroad if the right opportunity arises”
Yeah, the” right opportunity” will fall from the Sky.The Greeks have no idea how hard life is abroad. Nobody will give them anything for free /as they are used in Greece/ and they have to work their butts off just to stay afloat,50-60 hours a week. They have it much better in Greece so they better stay where they are.

  2. I agree with you :)…They cant face the long working hours and conditions…They are used to drink their frappé while driving public transport…They can’t, they just can’t…

  3. well those Greeks that hated America and Americans will find that America doesn’t want you or need you.

  4. surprise, surprise, the Greeks that would be nasty to tourists now want to immigrate to those countries. Good luck with that.

  5. Actually. If they arrive by boat as an asylum seeker with the Arabs, throw their passports away, then luck may be on their side. No Australian customs would be able to tell a Greek and an Afghan asylum seeker apart. They will also get Free EVERYTHING!

  6. Now that is sad to read that so many want to leave..Its not healthy for a country when so many want to move abroad and the illegals want to stay…
The grass is not greener on the side..Greeks may be disappointed with the quality of life in other countries…as they only see greeks who live abroad come and visit spending alot of money…What they do not see is the work and hours they put in…

  7. “Greece is back.” Samaras opening line. Speech given over a month ago to an audience where everything he said was lies and lies and more lies.

  8. Pretty vague comments by most here. Have you been to Greece? Like elsewhere in the world, most of the population is nice and just your average Joe trying to make a living for their family. This crisis has damaged the Greek family structure and hospitable character. It is only normal that people feel depressed, non motivated since they see no future and no improvements to their lives. I have many family members in Greece that lost their jobs and paid their bills and taxes while working a dead beat job of 800 Euros a month. Now they have nothing and losing their homes. How would you feel in that situation? At least they have family abroad who are willing to support them financially and mentally. Most won’t move abroad if they have families but the youth have no future even if they have a good education as there are no jobs for them besides waiting tables and serving coffee and booze to tourists and local Greek sleazes.

  9. In the meantime while Greeks are leaving we have the 2 “Criminal Gangs” from PASOK and New Democracy Parties running a government of Thieves, Liars & Crooks who created all these problems today.

It was PASOK & ND Parties who created all the financial problems in Greece by their corrupt rule and mismanagement– (Akis Tzahadzopolous and Yiannos Papantoniou are ex-MPs from PASOK who are an example of their horrific corruption).

1.) Why isn’t PASOK’s MP Venizelos in jail for hiding the Legarde List 2 years in his home? And what about Venizelos’ controversial submarine bribery deal, he signed in 2010?

2.) Why isn’t PASOK’s Finance MP Papconstantiou in jail for removing his relative’s names on the List?

3.) What about PASOK & ND Parties still owing 250 million Euros to the Banks in phony loans they have not paid back a penny yet?

4.) What about Health Minister Georgiades who got caught cheating on his taxes the other day and was let off with a minor fine of 1200 Euros. Whys is he still a Minister and not fired??

5.) Why aren’t Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his sister Dora in jail after taking BRIBES from Seimens?

It seems to me the Gov’t and Press here is using ANYTHING as a DISTRACTION to take attention away from the Massive Crimes these two corrupt Parties have committed as well as Treason against the whole Greek nation after 39 years of corrupt rule– They MUST ALL BE IMPEACHED and JAILED for high crimes and HIGH TREASON with the EU & IMF against the Greek People and State!

  10. It is about time that all those misappropriated funds are located and the persons responsible face criminal trials. Why are the european countries continuing to lend money to Greece without any visible results in this area?

  11. Who would be foolish enough to go to the United Shitholes of America.
45 million live under the poverty line…enough Americans live under bridges or in their cars.

  12. Australia has already accepted many Greeks since the crisis [email protected]
The Greeks in Australia have lobbied their governments to accept more & since we have a good record here unlike your Slavic trash brethren the government obliged!!

  13. Greeks who want to leave have simply given up their rights to corrupt politicians.
It is time that the Greeks take their country back into their own hands and stop running and waiting for others to fix their country.
If you do not want to stand up for your rights, then sit down on your stool to become what you really are.

  14. As expected and deserved these are not good polling numbers for the coalition. Many would like to see Greece depopulated, impoverished, uneducated with an unstable government ready to be occupied and subjugated by EU mercenaries, Albanians, Turks and others. The first step towards independence and national identity is the Drachma.

  15. Greeks are screwing themselves and have nobody to blame for themselves.

Just ask almost any Greek in Greece and he will tell you how everybody else is responsible for their misery. They even carry a little paper in their back pockets with a list of “they did it to us”.

  16. It’s human nature when you are down and out caused by the hand of others. Remember Greeks recovered after suffering the highest casualties by percentage of any population occupied during the war and subsequent civil war. Greeks are feisty, resilient and innovative. When given hope and a little breathing room they do very nicely as exemplified by diaspora Greeks. It is the self-inflicted injuries of theft, abuse of power and cronyism that has hobbled Greece since 1974 and that will be reversed someday soon.

  17. Careful. You’re surrounded by Macedonians. You wouldn’t want your tyres slashed by these barbarians

  18. Tyres slashed??
I guess that’s all they could do.
Barbarians always lose as your grandfather will tell you…like he lost after WW2 & was banished to crappy Paeonia!!
