Shots Fired at Residence of German Ambassador in Greece

german-embassy_GreeceGunshots were fired at the German ambassador’s, residence at 52, Ethnikis Antistaseos Street in Halandriin, Athens, Greece, early on Monday, but caused no injuries or damage, police said.
Police sources said that the guard at the residence of Ambassador Wolfgang Dold saw four people open fire at the gate using AK-47 assault rifles. Bullets were found embedded in the steel gate.
Dozens of spent bullet casings were found outside the building, while four rounds were lodged in the courtyard door. It has not yet been determined if any of the bullets got to the interior of the house. The police crime scene investigators are scanning the area in hopes of finding any evidence, such as DNA, which might help shed some light in the shooting.
The Anti-terrorist squad is investigating the incident and has taken six people in for questioning. CCTV footage is also being examined.
Both Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and the Minister of Public Order, Nikos Dendias, have spoken with German ambassador Wolfgang Dold by telephone following the incident.
In 1999, the German ambassador’s residence was the target of a terrorist assault in which an anti-tank weapon was used. The underground Marxist group Revolutionary Organization 17 November claimed responsibility for that attack, in which no one was hurt.
