The Ministry of Education in Greece is currently working on a new draft bill regarding the creation of research centers in all Greek regions.
The idea for the project came from the European Union, which would like to see research funding stemming from its National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) move away from Greeceās major urban areas and reach other parts of the country as well.
This being Greece, let us hope that these novel research centers will not turn into centers for wasting EU subsidies.
The goal is for these institutions to work on realistic ideas for activity and growth, concepts which can be implemented and adapted to each area.
Moreover, these centers should be staffed based on merit and be controlled by a central authority with as much independence as possible, in order to avoid the well-known phenomena that have taken place in the past.
