The Biggest Local Organization of PASOK in Greece Facing Closure

 pasok

The biggest and most historical local organization of PASOK in Greece, is facing closure. In the old good days, PASOK’s local organization of Mastampas in Iraklion of Crete, had 16,000 registered members but now cannot afford the cost of functioning.
The decision to terminate the function of the local organization had been taken long ago by members that are in charge of coordinating the actions of the organization. This development caused a reaction among some idealists and historical members of the party who claimed that a final decision must be taken by an assembly attended by all members of PASOK’s local organization.
The crucial assembly is scheduled on January 8. The historical local organization will stop operating after 40 years of contribution.
Many members of PASOK say that this is another sign that the era when the party had a leading role in Greece’s political scene had come to an end.
Mastampas’ local organization of PASOK was always a reference point for all the party’s leaders. It had always played an important role in all historical phases of PASOK as well as in all party congresses as it was the organization with the most representatives.
