XTERRA: 2nd Greek Triathlon Championship

XTERRA event
XTERRA, one of the world’s premier triathlon Championships will be held in 2014 in Greece, for the second time. After the success of the event last year, it is scheduled to take place again on June 21, in and around Lake Plastira. The competition is expected to attract top professional and amateur athletes from over 25 countries, who take part in swimming, mountain-biking and cross-country events.
The magnificent scenery surrounding Lake Plastira in the Prefecture of Karditsa, will provide local and international athletes with the opportunity to compete in the 1.5km swim, 30km mountain bike ride and 10km cross-country run. Prizes include 40 qualifying places for the XTERRA World Championships in Maui, Hawaii, and prizes up to $15,000 for the top finishers.
“There’s really no greater way to explore the diverse and culturally rich areas of Europe, than to string together two or more of these races and to enjoy the adventurous travel in between,” said XTERRA managing director Dave Nicholas.
“Beyond competition, XTERRA is about community, camaraderie, adventure, and promoting a healthy, active, outdoors lifestyle among people of all ages,” said officials of the event. In addition to the main competition, there will be activities for all ages which will provide a memorable experience for all those who attend the event.
XTERRA was created in 1996 by a Hawaiian television and marketing company, in order to provide professional and amateur athletes with the opportunity to compete in diverse, challenging and magnificent natural environments, from tropical jungles to snow-covered peaks. What began as a single race evolved into an international competition, with more than 100 Championships held in 23 different countries.
