The 23-year-old student Irene Triantafyllou from Messolonghi, Greece, was one of two passengers tragically killed yesterday when a KTEL bus collided with a truck.
Irene was studying at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and was traveling with other students to Thessaloniki when the accident occurred. She and another woman of the same age from Agrinio who was also killed, were sitting at the front of the bus where they were exposed to the full force of the impact.
Irene’s parents traveled to Thessaloniki yesterday to formally identify her body.
According to the website agrinionews.gr, the bus left Aetolia-Acarnania with 48 passengers, of whom twenty alighted in Kozani and Veria.
The KTEL bus collided with the truck driven by a 55-year-old foreigner. As a result two young women lost their lives and 22 other passengers were seriously injured. The Greek Traffic Police, Thessaloniki Fire Department and Hellenic Emergency Medical Service (EKAV) rushed to the scene in order to treat and evacuate the injured to the nearest hospital.
