Two More Golden Dawn Lawmakers Arrested in Greece

Two More Golden Dawn Lawmakers Arrested in GreeceTwo lawmakers from Greeceā€™s far-right party, Golden Dawn, were ordered to be taken into custody late on Saturday on charges of joining and directing a criminal organization.
An Athens court ordered Giorgos Germenis and Panayiotis Ilipopolos placed in pre-trial detention late on Saturday after both suspects testified before prosecutors.
The state-run Athens News Agency cited a witness who claimed that Germenis held the post of ā€œarmy majorā€ in the organization, responsible for the recruitment and training of new members.
Both men, as well as a third Golden Dawn member of parliament, who was to appear before prosecutors on Sunday, had previously been charged with joining and directing a criminal organization.
All three, who have been stripped of their parliamentary immunity from prosecution, have denied the charges against them.
Golden Dawn and its supporters are suspected of involvement of numerous attacks on immigrants and their political opponents.
Three other lawmakers, including Golden Dawnā€™s leader, Nikos Michaloliakos, have been in custody since late September, when the police began a crackdown on the party after a self-professed supporter killed a leftist rapper. The partyā€™s spokesman, Ilias Kasidiaris, and two more legislators were conditionally released pending trial on a variety of criminal charges, including attempted murder and assault.
Greece’s Golden Dawn has 18 legislators in the 300-member Parliament.
