Greece, which has recently taken charge of the EU presidency, plans to submit proposals on facilitation of visa requirements for citizens of third countries to the European Union according to the Greek Tourism Minister, Olga Kefalogianni.
“Among the priorities of the Greek EU presidency is to show that tourism is an integral part of the EU development policy. This is something that concerns all European countries, not only Greece and the southern countries,” stated Mrs. Kefalogianni to Forum news agency.
She continued by saying that “Greece’s intention is to propose the revising of the current Visa Code. We aim at removing all the bureaucratic barriers for citizens of third countries, such as Ukrainians, Russians, Turks and Chinese who need a visa in order to enter Europe legitimately. We need to facilitate the process.”
In addition, Greek Minister of Tourism highlighted the importance of coastal and marine tourism, as well as cruise tourism not only for the Greek Economy but also Europe’s in general. In fact the Greek Ministry of tourism will schedule a conference on March 10-11 to discuss the matter.
“We want to boost the country’s winter tourism. Thus, we have to find solutions to our infrastructure problems. Moreover we will help all local efforts to boost tourism forms such as rural, ecological, pilgrim and spa tourism,” said Kefalogianni.
