Only One in Five Greek Firms Run by Women

According to data from research company ICAP concerning 4,670 firms out of the 22,500 which issued a 2012 financial report, only one in five (21 percent) Greek enterprises is run by a woman.
That 21 percent however, represents a rise from the 19 percent that was recorded in 2011. Consequently, there is a slight increase in the number of the woman executives on company boards.
The majority of the firms that are directed by women are small or medium-sized companies. Only 9 percent of the major companies (with at least 250 employees and an annual turnover of 50 million euros or more) have female directors.
In addition, according to ICAP’s data, 81 percent of the women who run companies also have stake in their firms. From this we can deduce that the actual number of female chief executives is considerably smaller.
