Greek Doctors Extend Strike

eopyy

Doctors of EOPYY have decided once more to extend their strike until February 7. On Thursday morning, doctors gathered outside the Social Insurance Institute (IKA) office in Pagrati and held a protest rally. “We are on strike not because we ask for a salary increase or for private interests. We are on strike because we ask public health to be free for everyone. We seek for the existing health structures not to be dissolved,” mentioned Ioannis Chronopoulos, vice president of the federation of EOPYY doctors.
Members of the movement “I do not pay” were also present at the gathering holding flags and banners with the slogan “our weapon is our solidarity.” They were also shouting other slogans like “education and health, electricity and water are not for sale, they belong to people.”
At yesterday’s meeting of SEYP-EOPYY of Attica, Central Greece, the doctors denounced the mockery coming from the Greek Ministry of Health that institutions face as far as the ostensible attempted reform is concerned which only has a purpose to dismiss at least 2,500 doctors through the reforms included in the law bill of the National Primary Health Network (PEDY).
Representatives of the political parties SYRIZA, Independent Greeks, DIMAR and the Greek Communist Party (KKE) were also present at the place of the protest. All the representative deputies denounced the bill and spoke against it.
Tactics and measures proposed to doctors for enforcement in the event for the enactment of the bill, were also announced.
