Argentinian entrepreneur Eduardo Eurnekian is expected to make an offer to the Hellenic Republic Assets Development Fund (HRADF) for the ongoing competition concerning 21 Greek airports.
During the World Economic Forum in Davos, Martin Eurnekian, nephew of the Argentinian billionaire said that his company, Corporate America is currently looking to expand in southern Europe through the acquisition of 21 Greek regional airports.
The Greek government is promoting the gradual independence of local airports through their categorization into groups that will later be privatized under concessions or otherwise be liquidated as a result of any transaction or series of transactions. After such a privatization process, the FAA will maintain the role of aeronautical services regulator and provider of air traffic control services.
The HRADF has conducted an international open competition for the exploitation of two groups consisting of 14-20 regional airports through their concession to private investors. The remaining regional airports will be transferred in accordance with the provisions of N.4146/2013 to the Regional Airport Management Company which is part of the public sector in Greece.
Greece has 39 regional airports in cities such as Thessaloniki, Rhodes, Corfu, Chania, Kos, Zakynthos, Santorini, Mytilini, Samos and Mykonos which attract the majority of international tourism. Within the next few days Corporate America will acquire 23% of the Pisa airport in Italy and it has also undertaken the project of uniting the airports in Tuscany with the addition of the Florence airport.
Corporate America manages 51 airports worldwide, and is preparing to make offers for concession projects in Cusco, Peru, Barranquilla in Colombia and for the international airport of Santiago in Chile.
