Immigrant Found Dead in Rhodes

Greek_coastguardEarly on Monday morning, Greek coast guards detected the dead body of an immigrant offshore the small cove of Ladiko, in the island of Rhodes, Greece.
According to the local media, Greek coast guard authorities were led to the place after a resident of the island had reported that there were several immigrants on the beach. The remaining seven men and women from Syria who were detected by the coast guard officers, managed to swim to the coast and survive.
The immigrants reported to the Port Authority, that the trafficker who transported them from Dalaman, Turkey, threw them into the sea when they were approaching the Greek island of Rhodes.
The Syrian immigrants who are currently detained in the Rhodes Port Authority were provided clothing, food and water.
The escalation of the Syrian civil war that broke out in 2011, resulted in thousands of Syrians leaving their country to save their lives. The UN estimates that Syrian refugees exceeded 1 million in 2013. Most of them try to find shelter in neighboring countries, while many prefer to escape to European countries.
However, they don’t all manage to survive because of the difficulties they are dealing with and are often victims of their traffickers. In Greece, during the last months, the deaths of immigrants trying to reach the country have increased. The Greek authorities have often been accused by the international community of maltreating immigrants and violent pushbacks.
