EU Elections: Greeks Residing in Other EU Countries

Greek-EU-Elections-to-Become-More-DirectThe Greek interior ministry has already commenced its preparations for organizing the Greek vote in the upcoming European parliament elections for Greek citizens who reside in other EU countries and wish to exercise their electoral rights there.
A circular letter by the interior minister of Greece, Yiannis Michelakis, has been forwarded to all Greek diplomatic missions abroad, providing information on each mission’s duties and responsibilities in preparing the EU vote, while also addressing other Greek bodies and entities involved in the vote.
Greek citizens, who wish to exercise their voting rights and reside in an EU country other than Greece, or will be located in another EU country on election day, must fill out an application stating their intention to vote and submit it to the local Greek diplomatic mission in the city where they are expected to cast their vote. Interested voters who have internet access are encouraged to download and fill out the application found on the website of the Greek interior ministry (www.ypes.gr) and then submit it to the local Greek diplomatic mission. The deadline for the applications is Friday, March 28, 2014.
Law 1427/1984 provides that the above applications-statements must be sent after the deadline (March 28, 2014), to the Greek interior ministry in order for it to compile the special electoral lists of Greek voters residing or being located on the day of election in another EU member state.
Meanwhile, the interior ministry has also sent a circular letter calling Greek diplomatic missions within the European Union to inform by any available means, Greek electors residing in their region of their right to participate in the elections for the European parliament.
For more information on the procedures allowing you to cast your vote for Greece in the upcoming EU election held in May, please visit the website of the Greek interior ministry or get in contact with your local Greek diplomatic mission.
