Greek Police: Inadequate Evidence on Terrorist Attack

nikos-maziotisThe “Group of Popular Rebels” released a proclamation on Tuesday, February 11 claiming responsibility for a failed terrorist attack. Their claim has raised concern within Greek Police and has mobilized the residents of Varybobi in Athens, Greece where the attack took place.
Many of the residents gave testimonies, claiming to have heard the explosion, but nothing further. Residue from the rocket was eventually found today February 12, in the crater left by the explosion that targeted the Mercedes Benz dealership in the area. The parts that were found have been sent to the Greek police forensic laboratories.
On the day of the attack, patrol cars immediately arrived on scene, after receiving a phone call from a local resident who thought he had heard an explosion. Police investigations were conducted on the spot and the Chief of Greek police said: “we found no broken glass or any other indication of an explosion in the few nearby buildings.”
In light of the new evidence, an internal investigation is being conducted by Greek police in order to clarify what exactly happened with the rocket that was launched a month ago, targeting the Mercedes Benz facilities. The Special Anti-Terrorist Unit was informed yesterday, February 11, through the Group of Popular Rebels proclamation about the attack. In the same proclamation in which the terrorist Group of Popular Rebels confessed to the attack, the group also claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack against the German ambassador to Greece, in Chalandri Athens.
Furthermore, Special Anti-Terrorist Unit investigations concerning this specific terrorist organization, point to urban rebel, Nikos Maziotis. Meanwhile, the Anti-Terrorist Unit believes that the proclamation that contained a detailed economic analysis was written by Nikos Maziotis’ wife, Panagiota Roupa.
Greek Police are searching for Maziotis and his new terrorist group in Central Greece and Peloponnese, after receiving phone calls about the Group’s safe-house in those areas. Furthermore, police are also searching for their RPG supplier.
Special Anti-Terrorist Unit and NIS officers believe that a certain person from the common law department, who is currently collaborating with NIS, will help shed some light on the case.
