No Summer Vacation For 1 out of 4 Greeks

summer vacationThe Eurobarometer results released in Brussels showed that one in four Greeks (26%) do not intend to go on vacation this year because of their economic situation, while in the same category the number on a European level was 11%.
Furthermore, the community polls held from January 6 to 11, show that 54% of people in Greece are planning to go on vacation, but will have to adjust their plans due to financial difficulties. Greeks were followed by Italians with 49% and the Irish with 48%.
Only 10% of Greeks stated that their vacation plans will not be affected by the economic crisis and therefore they will not be forced to alter them, followed by 12% of Cypriots. Meanwhile, a strong 75% of Austrians, 74% of Germans and 72% of Danes stated that the economic crisis hasn’t affected their vacation.
The Eurobarometer also showed that Greeks (37%), more than any other European nation, choose their vacation destinations based on prices. They are closely followed by the Finnish with 36%.
In addition, 39% of people in Greece say they actually intend to go on holiday but for fewer days, compared to 2013.
A noteworthy 87% of Greeks who are planning to go on summer vacation will be traveling to a destination within their own country. The same was goes for 84% of Croats, 81% of Italians and 80% of Bulgarians.
However, Greeks (74%) and Cypriots (69%) show the highest rates among European citizens for not going on vacation during the year 2013. On the same note, only 8% of people in Sweden stated they did not go on vacation last year.
