Athens Mayoral Candidate Comes Out as HIV-Positive

Gregory VallianatosIn the race for the upcoming local elections, which will be held in May all over Greece, a candidate for the mayor’s office of the city of Athens has come out as HIV-positive.

Gregory Vallianatos, a 58-year-old Greek journalist, widely known as a strong advocate for gay rights is Greece, made his announcement through his Facebook page as part of his political campaign.

“I defend the right of every male and female citizen to call themselves gay, lesbian, trans, queer, bi, straight or anything else they want to, and to say so! Same as the right for everyone who is HIV-positive, such as myself, to say or not to say so,” said Vallianatos on Facebook.

Most users who commented on the posting praised the journalist for being courageous, while others criticized the revelation as a bid for votes. In a following comment Vallianatos explained that he had talked about his health and had disclosed this fact on a Greek talk show some years ago, but no one seemed to recollect this incident.

Vallianatos’ campaign is considered to be fairly aggressive, while making clear to everyone not in favor of him or his agenda not to vote for him. “That’s it! Everyone else, don’t vote for me,” he concludes every post in which he explains his political agenda and the issues that he supports and promotes.

Vallianatos, who is running as an independent candidate, is one of few prominent Greeks who is openly homosexual and strongly advocates the equality of homosexuals in Greece, promoting and backing the gay scene of major Greek cities.

Gays in Greece lack many of the basic rights and legal provisions enjoyed in other European countries, as they are still fighting for the recognition of same-sex marriage, access to IVF treatment and the right to adopt. Hate speech is rife and the influential Greek Orthodox Church is strongly opposed to same-sex relations, despite laws to protect employees from discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation and the fact that Gay Pride parades have been held in Athens since 2005.

  1. Which mayoral candidate has syphilis, attention deficit syndrome, bi-polar, or HIV makes no difference whatsoever as far as their candidacy to be Mayor of Athens. If they are physically, mentally unable or become incapable to be Mayor that should be a concern to the voters before they cast their ballot. This election is about critical issues that are far more important than same sex marriage.

  2. He might just end up taking a fair few votes away from SYRIZA LOL! Plenty of pro gay rights Leftists and homosexual Leftists will vote for him.

  3. Being homophobic has NOTHING to do with Hellenism. Ancient Hellenes were tolerant towards homosexuality. GD followers are to closer to the Taliban and Nazis than Hellenism. Pseudo-hellenic chauvanists.

  4. Candidates running on single issues rarely are elected. Vallianatos is running to highlight his cause and to a lesser degree his personal plight. Certainly his is a media driven campaign and he may get a sympathetic following from a part of the gay electorate including family members but not enough to upset the political landscape.

  5. Vallianatos shouldn’t be hated for being gay (although the fact he has aids probably means he irresponsibly engaged in unprotected anal sex)

The real problem with Vallianatos is he’s leftis imbecile that lobbies for Skopians trying to annex 1/3 of our country and delete our very identity. If you listen to him talk he’s like a parrot. A long string of leftist cliches (he no doubt believes his cliche style of speech is cosmopolitan).

He’s so clueless he thinks the Skopians that support him are fellow leftists when in fact most of them support far right Gruvski! The ultra rightwing in FYROM cheer on leftist pseudo “greeks” like Vallianatos because they know leftist fools like him can be exploited to treasonously betray their own country (as they did during the civil war when they massacred Greeks for IMRO, Tito and Stalin)

While he supports recognition of the former Yugoslavian propagandists threatening our country with name games yet agin, the moron doesn’t even know the government of FYROM do not recognize other states when it suits them.

    e.g.

“The Macedonian side stated once again that it will not establish official ties of any form or conduct official exchanges with Taiwan, and that it opposes Taiwan’s accession to any international organization whose membership requires statehood”

  6. Only a sadist would ever enjoy seeing other people suffer but only a sadomasochist would shed a tear when this cowardly leftist fool dies of a disease that he brought on himself while running for office on a platform of treason.

  7. Disgraceful! New Democracy Signs Into law Resolution Introducing Homosexuality to Children!

A European resolution was signed on February 4th regarding various homosexual topics.  More specifically this resolution takes in to account “the respect for the gay parade” and the “creation of special youth and education programs” in other words propaganda targeting underage children specifically on homosexuality. The entire proposal was prepared by Austrian MEP, Ulrike Lunacek of the Austrian Green Party, with support from the homosexual lobby Brussels.  The remarkable and interesting thing about the whole situation is the position taken by the Greek speaking wing of MEPs, and especially that of the “patriotic” wing of New Democracy. Greece has a total of 22 MEPs, eight of which belong to PASOK, seven to New Democracy, two to the Communist Party of Greece, one to SYRIZA, one to the Ecologist Greens, one independent, formerly of New Democracy, and two to L.A.O.S. Not one of the country’s MEP’s voted against the resolution, creating a bleak picture for the country’s representation in the European Parliament. As it regards to the “patriots” of New Democracy and to “Mr.180°” Karatzaferis, there is an additional element worth mentioning. The political factions to whom they belong had decided not to support this specific proposal, since it strikes at the Christian tradition of Europe, the air and customs of the people of Europe. Opening the backdoor to obscurantist censorship, that we also known as “progressiveness”. The “patriotic” MEPs, however, chose to bow their head and worship the leftists, voting in favor of this resolution. To elaborate further, of the seven New Democracy MEPs, three voted in favor of the resolution, and four abstain from the vote, meanwhile the two MEPs of Karatzaferis’s party, one abstained and the other, Niki Tzavela, voted in favor of teaching homosexuality to children in the school system.  If one was to take to the streets and poll the Greek population, the results would yield an overwhelming response against this resolution, as the Greeks do not under any circumstance want to have their morals insulted. This makes for a compelling argument for a much needed reboot of the representation in the European Parliament, with the overwhelming support for Golden Dawn, the only anti-globalization power in Greece, and the only Greek voice in parliament.

  9. Speaking of the Taliban, it’s New Democracy that has decided to spend Greek taxpayers money to build a mosque in Athens despite vehement opposition from Greek citizens especially from Greeks residing in the suburb where the mosque is being constructed. Golden Dawn has strongly opposed the construction of the mosque.

    Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip
    Erdogan made the following statement:

“THE MOSQUES ARE OUR BARRACKS, THE DOMES OUR HELMETS, THE MINARETS OUR BAYONETS AND THE FAITHFUL OUR SOLDIERS”

  10. Open up a history book. Spartans used to have sex with young boys. Your views on homosexuality are far closer to the taliban than ancient Greeks.

  11. I agree with you Tayyip is an antihellenic -sshole but muslims should have a right to build a mosque in athens. However, it shouldn’t have been paid for by the government and it should have come with strings attached.

Greece should have insisted we be equally allowed to built a christian Church in mecca.
