The World Travel Awards (WTA), the “Oscars of the travel industry” as they are called, will be held for the first time in Greece. The luxurious Divani Apollon Palace & Thalasso hotel in Athens will be hosting the European Gala Ceremony of the WTA on August 2, 2014.
The WTA Europe Gala ceremony will be attended by senior representatives of the most eminent travel brands in Europe, who will compete for the most prestigious awards in the travel industry.
The red-carpet ceremony is being organized in collaboration with the Greek Ministry of Tourism, the Greek National Tourism Organization (EOT), the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises and Divani Collection Hotels. It will include a gala dinner, exclusive entertainment and the presentation of the industry’s most important awards.
Guests will also be able to participate in a full event program during the awards’ weekend, in a “journey through Greece,” and learn about Greece’s bright history and contemporary culture.
The organizers of the international awards stressed the importance of organizing the WTA ceremony in Athens.
“We are delighted to host our first ceremony in Greece, a decision that reflects the crucial contribution that tourism makes to the national economy. The Greek tourism sector is enjoying a renaissance, with last year’s double-digit growth predicted to continue in 2014 as it continues to grow market share,” Graham E Cooke, President and Founder of the WTA, said.
He added, “The selection of our hosts is fundamental to the success of our awards program, and Athens possesses all the ingredients to rise to the challenge of hosting our Europe Ceremony 2014. As Europe’s oldest city, Athens beautifully balances its 2,500-year history with a vibrant contemporary culture scene.”
The ceremony will be held at the luxurious resort hotel Divani Apollon Palace & Thalasso, located in Vouliagmeni, the Athenian Riviera. The hotel’s beachfront location and its deluxe Thalassotherapy center make the hotel a top well-being and relaxation destination.

The Europe Gala ceremony will be the third stage of the WTA’s Grand Tour, a worldwide search for the world’s best travel brands. The World Travel Awards also includes regional award ceremonies in Dubai, Ecuador and Anguilla. The winners of these regional competitions will compete at the Grand Final, which will take place in December 2014.
