Greek Hoteliers Optimistic for the Future

KSENODOXOI_533_355The hoteliers of Athens are optimistic about the future. Their optimism is based on the data which was modified by Athens-Attica & Argosaronic Hotel Association and GBR Consulting. In a press conference, they presented the data that showed that after six years of recession, the hotel owners saw their businesses get back on track in 2013.
It is true that hoteliers have suffered great recession from 2008 until today, however, during 2013, the first signs of recovery were obvious. In particular, there was an increase by 11 percent in capacity during 2013. In addition, the revenue per available room increased by 8.7 percent. These numbers surely justify the hoteliers’ optimism for 2014.
Some determining factors that contributed to the Hotels’ recovery, are that the hotels of Athens have kept the prices down, something that helped them become more competitive and secondly the fact that there was no social disorder in Greece’s capital, despite the deep crisis. For example in Istanbul, there was a decrease of 15 percent due to social and political disorder.
Despite the optimism, the Greek hoteliers underline that tourism in Athens is still a “fragile and changeable product.”
