Greece Fails to Impress in Friendly Match Against South Korea

GREECE

The Greek national team lost the friendly match against South Korea 0-2. Greece failed to impress and surely needs a lot of improvement in order to keep up with the upcoming challenge of the World Cup. This was the first tough test for Greece just a few months before the World Cup in Brazil gets underway.
Fernando Santos’ starting lineup was Glikos, Torosidis, Manolas, Papadopoulos, Cholevas, Tziolis, Maniatis, Katsouranis, Samaras, Salpingidis, Mitroglou.
The first good moment belonged to South Korea when Glikos blocked a short-distanced shot. S. Korea took the lead in 17 when Park-Chu-Young opened the score with a left footed shot from the center of the box to the bottom left corner of Glikos.
Greece responded in 22’ when Katsouranis hit the crossbar from a really good position. Greece was unlucky in 32’ when Samaras hit the bar with a left footed shot from the center of the box and Papadopoulos who took the rebound also failed to score as his shot hit the crossbar once again.
The second goal that sealed the victory for S. Korea came in 55’ when Son Heung-Min beat Glikos from the left side of the box.
Greece failed to find any rhythm in both the first and second half, and except the crossbars had nothing else to show. Fernando Santos’ side performed below-bar in their first test before the World Cup.
Fernando Santos knows that performances like that can bring no victories. There was no passion from Greece’s lads while the team faced problems both in offense and in defense.
